Campbell River at a Glance
With resplendent sunsets, distant mountain backdrops and lush landscapes, it's
hard not to become enamoured with Campbell River. Located on the east coast
of Vancouver Island,
approximately 266 km (165 mi) north of Victoria,
the town of Campbell River is situated on the Discovery Passage, which runs
between Vancouver Island and the Discovery
Islands. Coined the “Salmon Capital of the World”, each year, salmon travel
through the Discovery Passage on their way to the Campbell River and other spawning
grounds. Garnering much adoration from locals and visitors, the salmon also
attract bears, whales, otters, seals and birds. In terms of recreation, Campbell
River is rivalled by few. The town has 22.5 km (14 mi) of paved waterfront,
a waterway rich with marine life, a large Provincial Park, an inspired arts
community and a natural terrain that features caves and interesting inlets.
In a word, Campbell River is majestic.
